Beacons of Light
MassEquality | 2018
I was honored to be a part of the 2nd annual Beacons of Light fundraising event for MassEquality, which took place on Thursday, March 22 at the Hotel Marlowe in Cambridge, MA.
The event surpassed last year's record breaking fundraising goal and brought in nearly $55,000 in support of the vital work to secure equal rights for Massachusetts LGBTQ communities.
Our Political Icon, Maura Healey works tirelessly as Massachusetts Attorney General to fight for equal rights in the State House and In Washington, DC. She gave an empowered speech that brought the room to it's feet.
Like a guiding light in the night, Beacons of Light shined a bright beam of inspiration on all of the attendees. The room was brought to tears by our Community Icon, The Network La Red is a survivor-led, social justice organization that works to end partner abuse in lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, SM, polyamorous, and queer communities.
Other notable attendees were Shane Cahill, Consul General of Ireland; Josée-Anne Labrie, Public Information Officer of the Québec Government Office in Boston; Sam Chambers, Boston Citywide LGBTQ Liaison for Mayor Martin J. Walsh; Boston City Councilor Josh Zakim; and former Rep. Carl Sciortino (currently Executive Director of AIDS Action Committee).
The Boston Roller Derby brought the energy in the room back up to full blast as they skated around the tables to collect pledges after a heartwarming fundraising pitch by Board Member Leela Strong.
