Design Museum Boston | 2019

Design Museum Boston celebrated its 10th anniversary with Gala 10 on June 8th, with our biggest, most successful, and most orange event of the year. We are incredibly proud to announce that we exceeded our fundraising goal by over 30%, making the evening an unbelievable success.

Wearing everything from neon orange suits to tiered chiffon dresses covered in mirrored tiles, prominent names in the Boston-area design, art, and business communities gathered  at the Exchange at 100 Federal Street, a modern glass-and-steel structure in the middle of Downtown Boston, for the party.

Especially notable in the crowd were Erin Robertson, who swept season 15 of Project Runway, Nicole Fichera, jewelry designer extraordinaire and Robertson’s business partner (as well as emcee for the event), nationwide interior design star Taniya Nayak of Restaurant Impossible and her husband, restaurant owner Brian O’Donnell, Denise Korn, Principal at Gensler, Philip Barash of The Boston Foundation, and Robert Brown, Managing Director of Perkins+Will Boston, the firm responsible for the Exchange’s beautiful design.

Guests mingled, enjoying gourmet hors d'oeuvres and a raw bar, as well as specialty cocktails courtesy of Our Fathers and The Hawthorne, while aerialist Molly Baechtold gave a gravity-defying performance. Then they sat down to dinner, where they were treated to a four-course meal crafted by the city’s star chefs, Mario LaPosta of Babbo Pizzeria, Zachary Osborn of Granary Tavern, and Benjamin Lacy and Ryan Boya of Café ArtScience.

During dinner Design Museum introduced its next exhibition, WeDesign: People. Practice. Progress., which will highlight diverse design talent across disciplines and industries, as well as announced our expansion of youth programming with Neighborhood Service Project, a community program in Cambridge to introduce teens to design thinking while empowering them to creatively address challenges in their own communities.

As servers brought out the final course, guests who made donations rained a shower of colorful streamers into the air in the final moments of the program. With the oncoming sunset, additional guests joined Violin Viiv and DJ Kay Bay in a dance party under the stars.

"Thank you Cat! Such a fun evening! You nailed it again! Brian and I had a great time!! And so flattered and honored to have been included."

- Taniya Nayak, Interior Designer and star of Restaurant Impossible

“Thank you again for an amazing event on Saturday!! You did such an outstanding job! Everything looked great and Matt and I had a wonderful time. I appreciated all the touches from the signature glasses to cocktails to silent auction. Bravo!”

- Maggie Baumer, Hanger Clinic
