Immersive | Transformative | Bold

This design concept came to life after reflecting on one of my earliest creative memories growing up in New Hampshire: making cyanotype prints with Sun Paper. Long afternoons spent collecting wildflowers and watching sunlight transform delicate botanicals into vivid blue works of art became the inspiration for an immersive event experience rooted in curiosity, nostalgia, and craftsmanship.

We transformed the industrial warehouse into a living work of art that invited guests to step inside the creative process itself. Every design decision, from the spatial layout to the culinary experiences, was driven by a single question: How do we make guests feel like they've stepped inside the creative process itself?

We curated a progressive event design that led guests through three distinct experiences, each designed to build anticipation through contrast and discovery. The experience began in a light-filled cocktail lounge layered with soft textures, botanical details, and a signature Lemon Bee's Knees cocktail before revealing a dramatic transformation into a richly draped indigo environment inspired by the deep blues of cyanotype prints. A hidden speakeasy, bathed entirely in red light and inspired by photography dark rooms, served as the evening's final surprise.

Throughout the experience, interactive moments reinforced the central narrative. Guests painted their own appetizers with flavored oils and sauces, transformed vibrant purple cauliflower purée with lemon juice, and created their own cyanotype prints outdoors using fresh botanicals and sunlight. These activations encouraged exploration while demonstrating how immersive event design engages every sense.

The décor celebrated the artistry of cyanotype through layered blue textiles, sculptural florals, and botanical silhouettes that echoed the delicate impressions found in traditional sun prints. The floral direction was intentionally restrained, focusing on sculptural blooms chosen for the distinctive shadows they cast when illuminated. Much like botanical specimens exposed on cyanotype paper, each arrangement became an exercise in silhouette and shadow play. Framed cyanotype artwork and immersive lighting further blurred the line between gallery installation & event design.

Curious by Design was an exploration of memory, artistry, and environmental storytelling, showcasing how intentional design can transform a venue into an unforgettable immersive experience and reminding guests that the most meaningful celebrations are those that invite us to slow down, wonder, and create.
