When ILEA Boston set out to celebrate the heart and soul of the local events industry, they weren't interested in a traditional gala. They wanted an experience. So naturally, we sent everyone to camp.

The theme held a special place in my heart. As a lifetime Girl Scout, former camp counselor, and current Girl Scout troop leader for my daughter, camp has shaped some of my most meaningful experiences in leadership, creativity, and community. Having the opportunity to reimagine those memories through a design-forward lens made this project especially rewarding.

Set on Courageous Sailing's Pier 4 and surrounded by waterfront views, this immersive celebration transformed the venue into a bold, bright, maximalist summer camp-inspired playground. Rather than leaning rustic, the design embraced vibrant colors, layered textures, and unexpected materials including fringe, tulle, stripes, gingham, and abundant florals. Custom camp vignettes, lawn games, colorful lounges, dramatic ceiling treatments, and vibrant linens created an environment that felt playful, elevated, and endlessly discoverable.

The food and beverage experience followed suit, featuring elevated takes on camp classics including pork belly and baked beans, Frito pie, bug juice-inspired cocktails, and s'mores-inspired libations. And because this was luxury camp, oysters and caviar made an appearance as well.

One of the evening's most memorable moments came courtesy of a towering hedge wall that concealed the program space throughout cocktail hour. Guests sipped spicy margaritas passed through openings by performers before the wall dramatically opened to reveal a floral-adorned stage and the setting for the awards program honoring ILEA Boston members. Later in the evening, the wall opened once again to reveal stilt walkers, a grand firepit, a packed dance floor, and a celebration that continued well into the night.

Despite rain, puddles, and relentless wind, guests embraced every moment of the experience. The result was a joyful, immersive event that captured the spirit of summer camp while showcasing the creativity, resilience, and community that define Boston's event industry.
